What Exactly Is A Chastity Device?

A chastity device is a device worn around the genitalia to prohibit intercourse or masturbation. Because of the large demand for them, devices for males are often more varied and available, but there are just a few chastity devices available for women. Men wear chastity cages, which make it virtually impossible to develop an erection, while women wear chastity belts, which prevent them from touching or being penetrated in any way.

The history of chastity belts and devices is based on fiction rather than reality. Many individuals thought that chastity belts were regularly worn by daughters or brides to maintain their faithfulness when their husband or father (the key-holders of their purity) was gone. However, not only have a few chastity belts been portrayed as antiques, but the timelines for when the chastity belt was manufactured and when these cultural legends were disseminated differ.

Most historians dispute that chastity belts ever existed since everyone understood that someone with a key could release them and that a piece of metal wouldn't stop them. Furthermore, it was difficult to create a hygienic and pleasant metal garment throughout the Middle Ages that would neither injure the user or generate open sores that may get infected. After all, this was a time when most people didn't even take baths on a regular basis.

At the moment, art is the most plausible explanation for the genesis of chastity belts. According to the Smithsonian, "Chastity Belts are a Myth," and they describe amusing art portraying a husband fastening the keys on his wife's belt while another guy waits in the shadows with another key, shortly to make the husband a cuckold. As "life imitates art," the story of the chastity belt may have become a reality.

Masturbation was deemed harmful to one's health from the 18th century until the early 1930s. Chastity devices were then deployed to prevent users from indulging in this behaviour. By the 1930s, there was little evidence to provide a genuine medical justification for not masturbating, and chastity devices were no longer recommended as a treatment.

Some nineteenth-century women used chastity bands to protect themselves against rape by their bosses or male coworkers. They only wore these belts for brief periods of time to avoid getting unclean.

The objectives and users of chastity devices have evolved dramatically since the 1800s. Gloria Allred delivered former California State Senator John. G. Schmitz a chastity belt at a speech on abortion prohibition in 1981, and he branded her a "slick, butch lawyeress." She sued him for libel and received a $20,000 settlement and an apology. The 1998 racial riots in West Java against the Chinese sparked the marketing of "rape corsets" to protect women from sexual abuse. In 2007, Lucio Valentini's trendy iron chastity belts were featured in publications all over the world. The same year, it was found that teenage girls in Rajasthan, India, were being forced to wear chastity belts. In order to reduce the danger of prostitution in specific settings, masseuses were forced to wear belts in 2008.

Chastity devices, on the other hand, are increasingly widely used in fetish and fantasy roleplaying, with more devices designed for male chastity than female chastity.
